On November 6, 2019, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirmed that it had released the voter registration list as ordered by the High Court in response to a petition filed by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
According to IEBC, the commission collects personal identifiable information of voters during registration and holds it in trust and confidence to ensure confidentiality and prevent unwarranted invasion of privacy, as per Article 31 of the Constitution.
However, on Wednesday, the High Court ordered IEBC to immediately release the complete Kibra voters register, minus personal details of constituents, following a petition filed by ODM.
Justice James Makau directed that the voters list be released, and IEBC complied with the order, releasing the detailed register of voters in Kibra constituency to ODM.
The voting process for the Kibra by-election started early morning on Thursday, with 183 polling stations and 24 candidates vying for the seat.
