On November 7, 2019, a heated scene unfolded in Kibra, Nairobi, as former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale was chased out of a venue.
According to a minute-long video that has been trending online, Khalwale was seen walking hurriedly out of the venue, surrounded by a group of people posing as his security, but with a larger crowd behind him that seemed to be against his presence.
"Hapa ni bedroom ya Baba! Hatutaki mchezo hapa!" a voice was heard saying in the background, roughly translating to "This is Baba's bedroom! We don't want games here!"
Later that day, Khalwale posted a photo on social media while wearing the same attire, claiming he was 'cleaning the bedroom'.
The incident is believed to be related to the ongoing Kibra by-elections, with area residents voting to elect their next Member of Parliament.
Among the 24 candidates contesting for the seat were ODM's Bernard Okoth, retired footballer McDonald Mariga of the Jubilee Party, and ANC's Eluid Owalo.
