On November 7, 2019, a cheating scheme was uncovered at a private centre in St Theresa's Boys Primary school in Nairobi, where 26 people were arrested and 35 phones seized by police.
The Directorate for Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Starehe and Kamukunji Sub Counties, led by Martin Mbaya, discovered that 154 private candidates were registered for the 2019 KCSE examinations at the centre.
During the Chemistry Paper II examinations, officers administering the tests found that students were receiving answers in real-time from an unknown source.
"Investigations will continue to establish the source of the communications with the candidates and those behind the racket," Mbaya noted.
The 26 arrested individuals will be taken to court for examination malpractice offences.
This incident follows a similar cheating scheme in Kisii, where seven people were arrested for impersonating KCSE candidates.
