Revolutionizing Budget Phones: Infinix HOT 8's 5000mAh Battery

Published on November 7, 2019

When Infinix launched the HOT NOTE in 2015, it marked a significant shift in the company's focus on smartphones. The HOT NOTE's impressive specs, including a 5.5-inch display and 4000mAh battery, were a game-changer for budget phones. Fast forward to 2019, and the competition has intensified. Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi have all released budget devices with impressive specs. So, how does Infinix stand out in this crowded market?

One way Infinix is differentiating itself is by incorporating a 5000mAh battery in its HOT 8 series. This is a bold move, especially considering the prices of the HOT 8 series. But is it enough to make a difference?

Let's dive into the details of the HOT 8's 5000mAh battery test to find out.

The HOT 8's battery life is indeed impressive. With a 720p display that doesn't demand much power and a Helio A22 processor that's power-efficient, the phone can comfortably last for hours on end without running out of juice. In fact, with social media, a few photos, and general use on 4G networks, you can expect to get around two days of use. With WiFi, you can push the device to three full days.

However, there are some issues with the charging system. The HOT 8 comes with a micro-USB port and a 10W charger, which is slow compared to other devices on the market. For example, the RealMe X2 Pro charges from 0-100% in 35 minutes, while the HOT 8 takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes to charge from 0-100%.

It's time for Infinix to upgrade its charging system. A 10W charger is no longer sufficient in today's market. The company should consider including at least 18W chargers on its budget devices and 25W chargers on its more expensive models. Additionally, embracing USB type-C would be a significant improvement.

But what about the benchmark test? To demonstrate the HOT 8's battery life, we conducted a benchmark test where we left the screen on at 85% brightness and loaded the CPU with up to 70% activity. The result was impressive, with the battery lasting for 16 hours and 20 minutes before finally dying.

Another important benchmark is the standby time. We left the phone on, connected to the internet, and running background processes. The result was astonishing, with the battery lasting for 7 days before draining to 65%. The battery still claimed it could last another 14 days, as shown in the screenshot below.

So, what's the verdict? If you're looking for a phone that can handle social media and light tasks with a huge battery that will last long, the Infinix HOT 8 is a great option. With three models available, including the HOT 8 (3GB RAM, 32GB Storage, Triple Cameras) for KES. 11,899 and the HOT 8 Lite (2GB RAM, 32GB Storage, Dual Cameras) for KES. 9,999, there's something for everyone.
