Kibra Residents Cast Their Votes in Highly Anticipated By-Election

On this day, Kibra residents are exercising their right to vote in the highly anticipated by-election. The Swahili saying 'Hayawi huwa' has come to be for Kibra residents as they pick their next member of parliament today.

As of 6:00 AM this morning, voters had already started trickling into the different polling stations. The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted 24 candidates, including ODM's Imran Okoth, Jubilee's McDonald Mariga, and Eliud Owalo of ANC party, who are among the popular candidates.

According to IEBC, Kibra has 118,658 registered voters. The poll will be overseen by 188 presiding officers and 625 clerks. Elections Observation Group (Elog) and Haki Africa have called on IEBC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to be vigilant and help maintain peace during the Kibra by-election period.
