On November 6, 2019, a lobby group called Okoa Kiambu presented 210,000 signatures to the Kiambu County Assembly, urging them to expedite the impeachment process of Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

Led by Hoswell Kinuthia, the group claimed that Waititu was sabotaging his deputy, James Nyoro, by funding petitioners in court, making it difficult for Nyoro to work effectively.

The group further alleged that Waititu had fallen short of the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act after being charged with corruption.

Waititu and his wife, Susan Wangari, along with eight others, are accused of conspiring to defraud the county of Sh588 million through irregular awards of tenders to their close allies and proxies in exchange for kick-backs.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, had earlier revealed that 68 witnesses had been lined up to testify in the Sh580 million graft case against Waititu and others.

The impeachment of the county executive for Youth Affairs, Sports, ICT and Communication, Karungo Thang'wa, had also been a recent development, with the assembly accusing him of incompetence, abuse of office, and gross misconduct.
