On November 7, 2019, rapper T.I sparked widespread outrage after revealing in a podcast interview that he takes his 18-year-old daughter Deyjah Harris to the gynecologist every year to check her hymen and ensure it's still intact.
During the interview on the 'Ladies Like Us' podcast, T.I stated, 'Not only have we had the conversation. We have yearly trips to the gynecologist to check her hymen.'
Many have condemned T.I's actions as controlling and abusive, with some pointing out that hymen checks are outdated and demeaning. 'This is disgusting, possessive and controlling,' wrote Avenge Latasha Harlins. 'Virginity checks are outdated, abusive, demeaning, and humiliating,' added Weeb Chronicle.
Others have expressed concern for Deyjah's well-being, with Barrie Blonde stating, 'I feel bad for your ADULT daughter! That you feel it necessary to KNOW, and SHARE, what is HER business (literally AND figuratively!) is DISGUSTING.'
