On November 7, 2019, a bizarre case unfolded in a Makadara court, where a 28-year-old woman, Ruth Khaecha, left the judges in stitches as she recounted her alleged steamy affair with her employer, Paul Kanyi Mwangi.
According to Khaecha, Mwangi had given her Sh800,000 after she provided him with an 'excellent service in bed' at his palatial Muthaiga home. She claimed that the affair started shortly after she was employed as a house girl and that she suspected Mwangi's marriage was troubled.
Khaecha is charged with conspiring with her father, Solomon Bwoya, to steal Sh1.4 million from Mwangi on January 15, 2019, at Balozi Estate, Muthaiga North. She also faces a charge of stealing the money by virtue of being Mwangi's servant.
However, Mwangi disputed Khaecha's claims, stating that he returned home to find the cash missing and that Khaecha was unreachable on phone as it had been switched off.
Prosecutor Shadrack Otuke challenged Khaecha on whether she regretted breaking Mwangi's marriage, to which she replied, 'I did what anyone would do if such an opportunity occurred in their lives. I have suffered a lot after my mother died when we were young. I don’t want my children to go through what I have gone through and I did what everyone would do.'
Khaecha confessed that she used the missing cash to buy a parcel of land, while her father bought two motorbikes, a solar panel among other items.
