On November 6, 2019, the Kenyan government made a significant statement in its fight against narcotics trafficking by destroying a massive cocaine haul worth over Ksh 500 million.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i led a team of high-ranking officials from the Judiciary, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, National Police Service, and the Ministry of Interior to the DCI headquarters to witness the destruction of 100 kilograms of cocaine.
CS Matiang'i praised the police for their efforts in combating the drug trade, terming the recovery of the illegal consignment a clear testament to their integrity.
He also challenged all state agencies to work together, warning those behind the narcotics trade that no one, including those perceived to have protection from authorities, will evade the full force of the law.
Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Hajji attributed the success of the recovery to inter-agency collaborations, while Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai commended the public for collaborating with the police, saying security agencies have made tremendous strides as a result of information availed by the public.
