On November 4, 2019, Ethic released their song 'Tarimbo', which sparked controversy due to its lyrical content. The song was still trending at number 1 on YouTube with over 790,000 views on November 7, 2019, five days after its release.

Responding to the backlash, Ethic issued a public apology on Monday, stating that they did not intend to objectify women in their songs. However, they did not indicate that they would be pulling down the song.

CEO of the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB), Ezekiel Mutua, expressed his disappointment with Ethic's apology, stating that it was not enough. He emphasized that people must take responsibility for their actions and that a real apology should be a change of behavior and a commitment to be responsible.

‘It’s not enough to apologize. People must take responsibility for their actions. The real apology should be change of behavior and a commitment to be responsible!’ Mutua said on social media.
