On November 5, 2019, a tense scene unfolded at the Integrity Centre in Nairobi's Upper Hill area, where Mike Sonko was being interrogated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Four employees of Nairobi county, Kennedy Odhiambo, Joseph Mwangi Karai, John Abok, and Richard Bosire, were later presented in court and charged with creating a disturbance during the interrogation.
According to a charge sheet, the four individuals willfully and unlawfully resisted arrest from police constables Peter Mwangi, Timothy Nyagah, Antony Kasili, Joseph Muturi, and Inspector Silas Siota at around 11:00 am on November 5.
They are also facing a charge of taking part in an unlawful assembly at the same location.
During their court appearance, the four denied the charges and sought to be released on reasonable bail terms, arguing that they were not a flight risk as they were employees of the Nairobi county government.
Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot granted the four Sh100,000 cash bail each, with the case set to be mentioned on November 20 for pre-trial.
However, shortly after Governor Sonko posted their cash bail, police rearrested the suspects to face fresh charges of allegedly assaulting police officers.
