Published on November 6, 2019, the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) has embarked on providing support to AU Member States and Regional Economic Communities to prepare country-level reports on the progress of implementing Agenda 2063.
The progress report, expected to be presented to the African Union Summit in February 2020, will serve as a yardstick for member states to gauge the progress of Africa's transformation blueprint.
According to Talla Kebe, AUDA-NEPAD Acting Director of Knowledge Management and Programme Evaluation, the need for peer learning, knowledge exchange, and support among member states is crucial to ensure effective reporting.
Speaking on the Overview and Roll-out of Agenda 2063, Monitoring and Evaluation Framework, Mesfin Tessema, Director Strategic Policy Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Resource Mobilization, noted that Agenda 2063 is on track, despite facing some challenges.
These challenges include funding issues, inadequate capacity of monitoring and evaluation personnel, and implementing joint planning and reporting activities.
However, Tessema emphasized that regular consultative technical meetings of the Joint Task Team on Agenda 2063 – SDGs M&E Implementation Support can help overcome these challenges.
