On September 30, 2019, Justice Janet Mulwa delivered a verdict at the Nakuru High Court, sentencing David Njoroge to 20 years in prison for the murder of his neighbor, Kennedy Waithigo.

The incident occurred on August 20, 2014, at the Costarica Trading Centre in Rongai Sub-County, Nakuru County, where Njoroge allegedly stabbed Waithigo multiple times after the latter accidentally spilled his milk.

Justice Mulwa considered several factors before arriving at the sentence, including the fact that Njoroge was a first offender, was ill, and had undergone surgery on his abdomen. She also took into account Njoroge's mitigation and pleadings, in which he expressed remorse and claimed to have reformed, becoming a pastor.

Despite exercising discretion and avoiding a death sentence, Justice Mulwa ruled that a non-custodial sentence would not serve the purpose of deterring, rehabilitating, and restoring justice. She therefore proceeded to sentence Njoroge to 20 years in prison, with a 14-day window for appeal.
