Adopt a Baby Elephant ¶
Love animals? Why not adopt one? You can extend your layover in Nairobi and visit the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's Orphans' Project.
For just KSh 5,000 a year, you can adopt an orphan and get an adoption certificate, watercolour paintings by Angela Sheldrick, and exclusive access to Keeper's Diaries, among other goodies.
It will be a memorable addition to your solo Kenyan vacation.
Try Unique Eateries and Fun Spots ¶
Kenya has a variety of original eateries where you can try unique dishes and refreshing drinks.
A good example of the kind of spots you're unlikely to find in other areas of the world is Lamu town.
Not only do you get some of the tastiest cocktails in town, but you are sure to get a real taste of unique coastal dishes, sample antiques and artefacts that display Lamu's rich history and culture.
Check Out Lake Turkana's Desolate Beauty ¶
When you think about Turkana, you probably don't have some great things to associate with the county. However, you will be surprised to know that it hosts the largest permanent desert lake on Earth – Lake Turkana.
Pale green in color, the lake, also known as the Jade Sea, is an off-the-beaten-track destination and is home to the largest concentration of Nile crocodiles in the world.
Go on a Camel Safari ¶
Love taking walks? You will enjoy the Camel Safari in Maralal, at the heart of Samburu land.
It is a seven-day camel safari guided by Samburu locals, and you can choose to camel ride or walk.
A support vehicle is available to carry tents, supplies, tile luggage, and any other personal needs you may have.
