The Kenyan government's ambitious affordable housing project is making progress, with the first phase expected to be completed by December 2019.
According to Charles Hinga, the principal secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, construction of the units started in April this year.
The project, located in Ngara residential estate, is the first development under Kenya's affordable housing program and will consist of 1,370 units built for low-income earners.
The entire project aims to roll out 500,000 affordable houses by the end of 2022, with the second phase expected to be completed in mid 2020 and the final phase by the end of next year.
