On November 6, 2019, a 34-year-old professional footballer was arrested by detectives on suspicion of blackmailing his manager.
The player, who cannot be named due to legal reasons, allegedly tried to extort thousands of pounds from his manager by making threats about his wife and children, in relation to a betting account.
According to reports, the footballer also told individuals chasing the money the location of the manager on the nights before away games.
The player denies the allegations and has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
Two police forces are assisting in the investigation, and the player has been bailed.
A spokesperson for the force leading the probe stated, 'Detectives investigating an allegation of blackmail arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of blackmail. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.'
