As the Kibra by-election draws near, security has been heightened in the area following a break-in at the residence of Woodley MCA, Mwangi Njihia, on Wednesday morning.

Njihia has termed the incident as political thuggery, with the MCA previously being attacked by goons along Ngong Road, which he alleged was an attempt by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to interfere with the campaigns.

Twenty people have been arrested ahead of the mini poll, which is expected to attract over 100,000 voters.

Meanwhile, the Nubian community living in Kibra constituency has faulted the national government for sidelining them in matters of development.

Speaking in Makina ward, Nubian Council of Elders Hassan Mohammed called on the elected leaders to intervene and address the community's long-standing recognition issues.

The Kibra parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of former Member of Parliament Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer.

On Tuesday, the IEBC defended its decision to decline a request by ODM Party to be supplied with the complete register of the Kibra constituency ahead of the by-election.

The electoral body maintained that it has already availed the truncated version of the register to the party as provided in the constitution.
