Bandari FC is facing a significant challenge ahead of their Kenyan Premier League match against Western Stima, scheduled for this afternoon at 3 pm at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu.
Head coach Bernard Mwalala has confirmed that top striker Yema Mwana, Benjamin Mosha, and first-choice goalkeeper Michael Wanyika are all nursing injuries and will miss the match.
Speaking to Citizen Digital, Mwalala expressed confidence in his team's ability to cope with the absence of the trio, saying, “Yema, Mosha, and Wanyika are definitely out. Dan Guya will also have a late fitness test, but most likely he will also miss. I believe those that will come in will give out their best,” he said.
However, Mwalala also acknowledged that fatigue is a concern for his team, citing their recent Caf matches as a contributing factor. The team was knocked out by Guinean football giants Horoya AC at Kasarani, losing 1-0 and exiting the competition on a 5-2 aggregate score.
“We had requested our match to be postponed, but it did not go through. There's fatigue, but that should not be a reason. We are going to fight today because we want to get back to the elite competition again,” added Mwalala.
Despite the challenges, Mwalala remains focused on the upcoming matches and has dismissed rumors about his potential departure from the club. When asked about his future, he said, “I don't want to comment on the rumors. If I switch my focus out of this club, that will be a big mistake. I am focused on the matches we have before the international break,” noted Mwalala.
