On Monday, a devastating road accident occurred near River Malewa along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway, claiming the lives of six members of a family who were traveling to Naivasha for a relative's funeral.

According to reports, the family was traveling in a saloon car when it was hit head-on by a trailer truck near River Malewa. The car was then rammed on the side by another truck, resulting in the deaths of five passengers, including a three-year-old child, on the spot.

The driver of the saloon car sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Naivasha Sub-county Hospital, where he later died. Relatives were left distraught as they struggled to come to terms with the loss.

Naivasha Deputy OCPD John Kwasa stated that the driver of the saloon car was overtaking a long queue of vehicles when the car was hit by the two trailers.

Relatives of the victims, including Martin Ndung'u, expressed their grief and shock at the tragic loss of life. Mr. Ndung'u said, “I have lost my sister and two nieces, while the others are my cousins and a grandson, who were all in the vehicle.”

He added that they were making plans to transfer the six bodies to Nakuru after post-mortems were carried out in Naivasha.

As the family mourns the loss of their loved ones, they are left to pray for strength as they prepare to lay them to rest.
