Ajax Amsterdam coach Erik Ten Hag expressed frustration over refereeing decisions that denied his team a Champions League victory against Chelsea on Tuesday.
Chelsea's Tammy Abraham was fouled by Ajax's Daley Blind before he tripped the Chelsea player, but Italian referee Gianluca Rocchi allowed play to continue, resulting in a Chelsea penalty and Blind's second yellow card.
Blind's teammate Joel Veltman was also sent off for handball in the same passage of play, giving Chelsea a penalty that Jorginho converted.
Chelsea's Reece James later levelled the score, denying Ajax a famous scalp on their Champions League travels.
‘I think we played magnificently tonight,’ Ten Hag said. ‘I think we dictated the game and we were leading at 4-1 and 4-2 and I think we were controlling the game, and then in one minute in the game everything changed.'
‘Some decisions were not on our side,’ Ten Hag said. ‘I think we were several times punished.’
He praised his players for creating chances to win the match even when down to nine men, saying, ‘We deserved to win tonight, with 11 and also with nine.'
