On November 5, 2019, the Eldoret High Court adjourned the hearing of Ivy Wangechi's murder case to 2020, following a request by Naftali Kinuthia's lawyer, Mbiyu Kamau.
Naftali Kinuthia, the key suspect in Ivy Wangechi's murder case, argued that the defense needed more time to review prosecution documents, which were only supplied to him on the day of the hearing.
Naftali's lawyer, Mbiyu Kamau, told the court that it was unfair to proceed with the trial without sufficient time to review the documents, and requested that the court set a new date for the trial.
However, in a surprising twist, Mbiyu Kamau requested that the court grant his client more time to apply for a plea bargaining agreement with the Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji.
Miss Wangechi's family, represented by lawyer Caroline Nyakinyua, objected to the plea bargain agreement, stating that they wanted the trial to proceed in order to get justice for their slain daughter.
