On Tuesday, a Congolese man was arrested at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in connection with an alleged Ksh.9.7 million gold scandal, published on November 6, 2019.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that the suspect received Ksh.9.7 million from the complainant in March this year, with the promise of purchasing gold on his behalf.

However, the suspect, Ledivin Mupanga, reportedly disappeared after receiving the money.

According to the DCI, Mupanga was arrested on arrival from Ethiopia following a Stop Order placed by Serious Crime Detectives.

Mupanga is currently in custody, awaiting arraignment in court, while investigations into the matter are ongoing.

His arrest comes amidst a series of high-profile gold scams in the country, including a case involving Jonathan Okoth Opande, who was charged with obtaining Ksh.25.7 million by allegedly pretending to sell 250 kilograms of gold.
