On November 4, 2019, detectives from the City Hall Directorate of Criminal Investigation apprehended Geoffrey Mandela Kengere, a suspect who had been deceiving Nairobi County residents.

According to the charge sheet, Kengere was the ringleader of a criminal syndicate that had been conning people using Mike Sonko's pseudo social media accounts, also known as 'parody accounts.'

He was arrested at a city hotel where he had gone to collect Ksh. 80,000 from one of his unsuspecting victims, a nurse. The nurse had been deceived by a fake job transfer letter dated October 29, which demanded Ksh. 80,000 in facilitation fees.

The Investigating officer of the case, Corporal Urbanus Mungutu, informed the court that he was undertaking investigations into the alleged offence of conspiracy to defraud as contrary to Section 317 of the Kenyan Penal Code.

Corporal Mungutu further stated that the accused had defrauded members of the public by issuing them with forged Nairobi County official government documents, resulting in millions of shillings being conned.

On November 6, 2019, Milimani Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi allowed the detectives' application for more time to complete investigations, including a search inside the suspect's premises, analysis of information from his mobile phone, email, and social media accounts, and interrogation of witnesses.

The magistrate ordered that the suspect be held in custody at the Central police station for 5 more days.
