On November 6, 2019, popular Kenyan group Ethic faced intense backlash for their latest song Tarimbo, with several people calling out the lyrics for containing what many referred to as 'rapey' content.
The complaints centered around the chorus, where the group's member Rekless is heard talking about using force on a lady with or without her permission.
Concerns were raised that not everyone may interpret the lyrics in a positive way, potentially hurting the girl child.
Apology from Ethic ¶
In a statement shared on their Twitter page, the group apologized for any offense caused, stating they had no intentions of hurting anyone.
They emphasized their respect for women, citing their roles as sons to their mothers and brothers to their sisters.
"We have enough respect for women," they said. "We are sons to our mothers and brothers to our sisters."
