A 19-year-old student from Royal Vision High School in Narok County is facing serious charges while preparing for his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
On October 14, 2019, at 4am in Narok town, Gideon Cheruiyot Chepkwony allegedly raped a young girl, and he also faces an alternative charge of indecently assaulting her.
On October 18, 2019, Chepkwony appeared before Resident Magistrate Adeline Sisenda, where he pleaded not guilty and claimed he was a student awaiting his KCSE exams. He was given a bond of Sh200, 000 with a surety of a similar amount, but he couldn't raise the surety.
The prosecution opposed his release on bond, alleging that his mother was interfering with witnesses and had tried to bribe the complainant with Sh20, 000 to withdraw the case.
On November 6, 2019, Narok Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma ordered that the accused be allowed to sit for his exams while in remand at Narok GK Prisons, with the education office and prison authorities providing necessary logistics and security.
