Published on November 6, 2019, a report emerged about three KCSE candidates at Moi Girls' High School in Eldoret who were expelled and forced to lodge outside the school during the exam period.

According to the candidates, they travel to the school from the guest house every morning to sit for their papers and go back in the evening. Two of the girls claimed they were accused of being indisciplined and were expelled a week before the start of the exams.

The third student said she was sent home in second term and did not attend classes in third term. She requested a drug test but the principal could hear none of it, and she was taken to a police station, accompanied by some teachers and a security guard, where she spent the night.

The parents of the three have decried the fact that the candidates will have to lodge outside the school for almost a month while doing their national examinations. They accused the school of failing to give the students fair hearing before punishing them.

Confirming the situation, Uasin Gishu County Director of Education Gitonga Mbaka said that they have launched investigations into this matter.

One of the candidates comes from Eldoret but not near the school, while the other two come from Kisii and Kisumu, hence why they had to lodge a house around their school. Their parents have now called on the Education Minister Prof George Magoha to help them solve the standoff.
