Mumias Sugar Company has been placed under receivership, a move that has led to the sacking of all its employees.

On November 5, 2019, the receiver manager issued a notice declaring all employment contracts redundant from September 20, 2019, the date of receivership.

Despite the mass layoffs, the receiver-manager has indicated that the company will engage the services of former employees on a temporary basis until operations resume, with mutually agreeable terms.

Priority will be given to former staff when hiring temporary staff to keep the company running.

According to the notice, affected employees will be duly compensated, with any payment to be dealt with in accordance with the provision of the law.
