Published on November 6, 2019, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) released the country's census results, showing a significant population growth of about 10 million to 47.6 million in the past decade.

However, the results have been met with resistance from politicians who claim that the numbers do not reflect the reality on the ground. They have threatened to take legal action, citing discrepancies in the population figures of their respective regions.

But experts argue that the census results are not a matter of contestation, but rather a tool for planning and national development. The allocation of resources to counties is based on population figures, and the National Treasury shares the Constituency Development Fund accordingly.

KNBS has assured the public that the figures released are accurate and a true reflection of population patterns. The census results should not create so much acrimony, and instead, should be used to inform development planning and resource allocation.
