On November 6, 2019, Liverpool continued their Champions League title defence with a 2-1 victory over visiting Genk at Anfield.

The Reds took advantage of Napoli's 1-1 draw against Red Bull Salzburg to move to the summit of Group E with nine points after four matches.

Georginio Wijnaldum put his side ahead in the 14th minute after benefiting from a goal-mouth scramble to fire home a close-range shot.

However, Mbwana Samatta restored parity for Genk just four minutes before half-time with a powerful header from Bryan Heynen's corner kick.

On return for the second half, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain handed the Reds their second lead in the game with a low but powerful shot from the 18-yard box in the 53rd minute.

His goal sealed the victory for the Merseyside outfit as neither of the two teams came close to scoring for the remainder of the meeting.

With the win, Liverpool shifted focus to their Premier League crunch clash against champions Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, November 10.
