This archive report was first published on 5 November 2019.

On November 5, 2019, Kenya Commercial Bank appointed a receiver manager to take over operations of Mumias Sugar Company, marking a significant shift in the company's management.

Just over a month later, on Tuesday, Mumias Sugar Company sent home all its employees, leaving many without a job.

The receiver manager, Ponangipalli Venkata Ramana Rao, had previously stated that the sugar firm would employ new staff on a temporary basis, but it appears that this plan has not come to fruition.
