On November 5, 2019, two KCSE candidates found themselves in an unexpected situation - sitting for their exams at Kapenguria referral hospital. The candidates, one from St. Patrick Simotwo secondary school and another from Pser secondary school, had delivered days before the exams commenced.

The candidate from St. Patrick Simotwo secondary school had given birth to a baby boy two weeks before the exams started and was unable to leave the hospital due to her baby's incubation. Pokot South sub-county deputy commissioner Frederick Kimanga stated that the candidate would only be allowed to leave the hospital when her baby was fully mature.

"The candidate will continue sitting for her exams at the hospital the day she will be discharged. She is being supervised under tight security," Kimanga said.

West Pokot county director of education Jacob Onyiego revealed that another candidate from Pser secondary school had delivered overnight at Kapenguria referral hospital and was also sitting for her exams at the hospital. Onyiego assured that the candidates were being supervised and would receive their exams on time.

Onyiego noted that the KCSE 2019 had kicked off smoothly with no transportation hitches, unlike the KCPE exams where delays occurred due to impassable roads caused by heavy downpour.
