On November 5, 2019, Waihiga Mwaura, husband to gospel artiste Joyce Omondi, was announced as the new host of Citizen TV's News Night show, taking over from Hussein Mohamed who ended his 10-year stint at the station.
Waihiga has been a prominent figure in Kenyan journalism, having hosted the Monday Report show with co-anchors Trevor Ombija and Mashirima Kapombe, and conducted interviews on the Daybreak show alongside Zindzi Kibiku.
His appointment comes after he won the prestigious BBC Komla Dumor award in 2018, emerging as the fourth recipient since its inception. He was granted a three-month training program at the British Broadcasting Corporation's headquarters in London.
