November 5, 2019, marked a significant day in Kenya's judicial history as Chief Justice David Maraga publicly confirmed a plot to have him replaced by Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto.

According to Maraga, the alleged plot was orchestrated by Director of Public Prosecution Noordin Haji and Speaker Justin Muturi, a close friend of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The move is believed to be part of a larger scheme to retain the Chief Justice position in the Kisii region, with Ogeto being a native of the area.

Maraga's revelation comes after the sacking of former Solicitor General Njee Muturi, who was replaced by Ogeto in a bid to create room for the latter's appointment.

It has emerged that Njee Muturi, who is the Deputy Chief of Staff, Legal, Constitutional and Legislative Affairs, is the mastermind behind the move, with President Uhuru Kenyatta heavily relying on him for advice.

Similar tactics were allegedly used in the case of Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu, who was accused of corruption and other misconduct.
