Published on November 5, 2019, the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) has deferred a decision on Kurume City as Team Kenya's training base until February next year.
NOCK had identified the Japanese city as Kenya's training camp ahead of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, but will delay the decision to allow for broad consultation with other federations.
Team Kenya Chef de Mission Waithaka Kioni explained that NOCK wants to bring on board all the federations to be part of the decision-making process before signing a pre-Olympics camp agreement.
"We want to consult widely and allow other federations to have their teams qualify first before we sign a deal with Kurume City," Kioni said.
NOCK has also established a management team for the Olympic Games, with Korir (Barnaba) as the General Team Manager, Kamau (Winnie) as the Assistant Team Manager, and Anthony Karuiki in charge of the team's finances.
At the moment, the Ministry of Sports is asking federations to forward their budgets for Olympic qualifying matches, and NOCK is offering support by providing any balances of kits to teams going for qualifications.
Kenya has already secured places in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for 29 athletes, including the Kenya Lionesses.
