On November 5, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's supporters were met with teargas as they accompanied him to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.

The EACC is investigating allegations that Sonko provided false information in his self-declaration form dated March 9, 2017. In a letter, EACC Chief Executive Officer Twalib Mbarak requested Sonko to respond to these allegations and record a statement regarding the same.

According to the letter, Sonko was required to appear at the EACC headquarters on November 5 at 10am to facilitate investigations. This was Sonko's third time to appear before the anti-graft agency this year.

The EACC is also probing claims of corruption in the award of Sh357 million tenders for the financial year 2017-18. Sonko was previously questioned on September 3, 2019, over a tender awarded to private companies to collect garbage in the city.
