Kenya's BBI Court Controversy ¶
Seneta Kipchumba Murkomen, a key figure in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), has sparked outrage after suggesting that governors accused of corruption will be exonerated if they support the initiative.
On November 5, 2019, Murkomen took to Twitter to express his views, saying that governors facing corruption charges should say 'Wam' (handshake) and be answered with 'Wam' (BBI) to avoid prosecution.
However, Murkomen's remarks were met with criticism from netizens, who felt that he was targeting the judiciary and undermining the rule of law. Gavana Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Moses Kasaine (Samburu) were among those who were summoned to appear in court, with their cases pending.
As the controversy surrounding Murkomen's remarks continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the BBI will navigate the complex web of corruption allegations and court proceedings.
