On November 5, 2019, anti-riot police clashed with supporters of Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko as they marched to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) headquarters in Nairobi, where he was being questioned.

The EACC had summoned Sonko to record a statement over allegations that he provided false information to the anti-graft agency in his self-declaration form dated March 9, 2017.

According to a letter from EACC chief executive officer Twalib Mbarak, the anti-graft agency is investigating the allegations and requested Sonko to appear at the EACC headquarters on November 5, 2019, at 10am to facilitate investigations.

“The commission would like you to respond to these allegations and record a statement regarding the same,” the letter stated.
