On November 4, 2019, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination kicked off across the country, but not without a major attempt to compromise the integrity of the exams.

Parents in Homa Bay, Migori, and Kisii had reportedly raised Sh200,000 to bribe exam officials and obtain the papers, but the government through the Ministry of Education was one step ahead.

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha revealed that the parents had planned to distribute the money to supervisors, invigilators, and police, with supervisors set to receive Ksh.120,000, invigilators Ksh.60,000, and police Ksh.40,000.

Prof. Magoha issued a stern warning to anyone attempting to cheat in the national exams, stating that those caught would risk prosecution.

He also urged candidates to avoid any form of cheating in the exams, warning that anyone caught would have their results cancelled.

“Please do not get involved in it, otherwise you will not get your results,” said Magoha during the distribution of KCSE examination papers at the Kisumu East Deputy County Commissioner’s office.
