November 5, 2019, marked a day of intense scrutiny for the Kenyan music group Ethic, following the release of their song 'Tarimbo'. The track has been at the center of controversy, with various factions weighing in on its suggestive lyrics and visuals.
Among those who have expressed their displeasure is Raila Junior, son of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. In a lengthy Facebook post, Junior questioned the integrity of the team behind the song, suggesting that they may have overstepped the line of what is ethically correct.
Junior, who has previously praised Ethic for their creativity and unique sound, expressed his disappointment with the song's lyrics, which he believes may be construed as promoting rape. He also questioned how the song's production team failed to notice the suggestive content.
However, instead of condemning the group, Junior offered to guide and counsel them, recognizing their influence on young Kenyans. He believes that Ethic holds the key to reaching a marginalized part of society and that they need to be made aware of their responsibility as role models.
