Published on November 5, 2019, Maina Kageni, a renowned Kenyan media personality, shared a shocking story about inheriting his late father's multi-million-shilling estate at the tender age of 21.
Speaking on his breakfast show on Classic 105, Maina revealed that his father left behind a will, which was entrusted to trustees after his death when Maina was just two years old.
"My dad died when I was two years old. Luckily for him, he left behind a will and after his death, it was entrusted to trustees," Maina said.
He added that immediately he turned 21, the properties were transferred to him, leaving him with a significant inheritance.
However, Maina expressed regret that his father did not leave his estate to his mother, instead choosing to entrust it to trustees.
"My dad was guilty. Why did he not leave everything to my mother?" Maina posed, sparking a discussion on the importance of clear succession planning.
His co-host, Daniel Dambuki alias Mwalimu King'ang'i, shared a contrasting experience, revealing that his father left him with no property at the time of his death.
"The only thing my dad left me was my mum. You finish school and you realize that responsibilities are waiting for you. The minute you lower your loved one's body into his/her grave, you immediately start thinking of all the debts one has to pay," King'ang'i said.
The discussion highlighted the need for clear succession planning to avoid family feuds and ensure that loved ones are taken care of.
