On November 4, 2019, Kenya's Chief Justice David Maraga expressed his discontent with the government's decision to reduce the judiciary's budget.
Maraga's comments come just days after the Minister of Finance, Ukur Yattani, reduced the judiciary's allocation from KSh 31.2 billion to KSh 11.5 billion.
According to Maraga, the reduction in funding will severely impact the country's judicial system, causing delays in court proceedings.
Maraga stated, 'There are some leaders who are doing everything possible to ensure that all court proceedings come to a standstill.'
He emphasized that the judiciary's primary responsibility is to serve the people, and that he will not hesitate to resign if the situation does not improve.
