Two Sisters Drown in River Tana, Bodies Recovered After Two Days

On November 2, 2019, two sisters, Malika Ramadan, 13, and Samata Ramadan, 10, tragically lost their lives in River Tana, Tana River County, after the water point they were using collapsed.

The victims, pupils at Maweni Primary School in Ndura location, reportedly fell into the crocodile-infested river while trying to draw water.

Tana River County Police Commander Fred Ochieng' led a joint search effort with local divers and villagers, who successfully located the bodies two days after the incident.

According to Mr. Ochieng', the bodies were retrieved from the river after a combined search with the villagers and local divers.

Area chief Bahola Godhana revealed that the duo was to be buried immediately in accordance with Islamic faith.

Following the incident, leaders including Tana River County Commissioner Mr. Oningoi Ole Sosio appealed to parents to keep their children away from the river banks due to the increased water level caused by heavy downpour in recent weeks.
