On November 4, 2019, La Liga club Leganes announced the appointment of Mexican coach Javier Aguirre as their new manager, replacing the sacked Argentine Mauricio Pellegrino.
Aguirre, a 60-year-old experienced coach, has a reputation for rescuing teams from relegation. He has previously managed Osasuna and Espanyol to safety in Spain.
Leganes, who are currently bottom of the table with just five points, will be Aguirre's latest challenge. The team has won only once in 12 games this season.
Aguirre has a wealth of experience in La Liga, having managed Real Zaragoza and Atletico Madrid, and has over 350 games under his belt.
Before taking charge of Leganes, Aguirre had a stint as Egypt's coach, but was sacked after the team's early exit from the Africa Cup of Nations.
As a player, Aguirre represented Mexico 59 times and featured in the 1986 World Cup. He later went on to coach Mexico at the 2002 and 2010 World Cups.
