Everton midfielder Andre Gomes suffered a horrific injury during a match against Tottenham on November 3, 2019, fracturing and dislocating his right ankle.

Former Everton teammate Idrissa Gueye, who now plays for Paris Saint-Germain, sent Gomes a classy message on Twitter, wishing him a fast recovery and calling him a 'warrior.'

"Wish you a fast recovery @aftgomes," Gueye wrote. "You are a warrior."

On the same day, Everton released a statement confirming the severity of Gomes' injury and announcing that he would undergo surgery the following day.

"The Portugal international was stretchered from the pitch during the second half of the game and taken straight to Aintree Hospital by ambulance accompanied by members of the Everton medical team," the statement read.

"After undergoing hospital tests, it was confirmed he had suffered a fracture dislocation to his right ankle. The Club will provide further updates in due course," the statement added.

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli admitted that his teammate Son Heung-min was left 'devastated' by Gomes' injury, saying that Son was 'crying so much' and couldn't even lift his head up.
