Web Summit, the world's largest technology conference, has begun in Lisbon with 41 startups from Africa, according to the Financial Times. The event, which started on November 4, 2019, features top speakers and talks, including sessions on fintech, robotics, and peace-building.
One of the key sessions is 'Debunking the Unbanked: Bringing Payments to the Masses' by Tunde Kehinde, Co-founder of Lidya. This session will explore how to provide financial services to people in emerging economies, going beyond mere banking.
Other notable speakers include Fouzia Adjailia, a roboticist from the University of Kosice, who will discuss the future of technology and its potential to create a more interesting world. Siyabulela Mandela, a lecturer at Nelson Mandela University, will also be speaking about the long walk to peace and how to shorten the path from conflict to peace.
Among the African startups in attendance are Daystar Power, a company that provides clean and reliable power to businesses in West Africa. The company's CEO, Olaedo Osoka, will outline the company's growth trajectory and how it is bridging Africa's power gap.
Other startups include TeamApt, a financial technology company from Nigeria, and Flutterwave Inc, a payments service founded by Olugbenga Agboola. There are also startups in the digital games and agriculture sectors, including Bonako Games Arena and Complete Farmer.
