On a tense Monday morning, Chief Justice David Maraga addressed the media, revealing his growing frustration with the executive's treatment of the judiciary.

According to Maraga, the executive has been showing contempt for the judicial arm of the state, which he believes is unacceptable.

During the recent Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa, Maraga felt disrespected when his presence was not acknowledged by the master of ceremonies, and he was forced to use a side entrance to the dais.

As a result, Maraga announced that he would no longer attend public functions as required of his office, citing a lack of respect and resources for the judiciary.

"The CJ has no Mercedes car, he is not accorded the respect due to his office in state functions," Maraga said, highlighting the disparity in treatment.

He also expressed concern over the lack of resources for the judiciary, stating that court operations would be severely impacted if budget cuts were not reversed.

"Unless the budget cuts are reversed, we do not have money for fuel, we will not have mobile courts, we will not have the court of Appeal circuits, we will not be able to pay for wi-fi for the e-filing and e-payments, plans to automate corruption courts will halt," Maraga warned.
