Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has found herself in a web of controversy after her arrest over the death of Jola Ngumbao. The incident occurred when she stormed the home of Ganda Ward representative Reuben Katana's uncle on the eve of a by-election.

Ms Jumwa and her aide Geoffrey Okuto were released on Sh500,000 bail each after being arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI). The DCI is still investigating the fatal shooting.

Ms Jumwa has accused Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi of instigating her arrest. She made the claims during an emotional address at her Kakuyuni home.

"I'm Aisha Jumwa. I'm a Kenyan and I'm not above the law. I told security agencies to carry out thorough investigations to ensure truth and justice prevail. If I'm found guilty, the law should follow its course to the letter," she said.

Ms Jumwa's woes have also seen seven ODM legislators and about 30 MCAs from Kilifi County seek signatures from Malindi residents to have her recalled.
