On Monday, the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination kicked off across the country, but Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. George Magoha was quick to issue a stern warning against any attempt to cheat.
Prof. Magoha revealed that the government had thwarted an attempt by some parents in Nyanza to bribe exam officials and obtain the papers. The parents, from Homa Bay, Migori, and Kisii, had contributed Ksh.200,000 to be distributed to supervisors, invigilators, and police.
According to Prof. Magoha, the parents had planned to pay Ksh.120,000 to supervisors, Ksh.60,000 to invigilators, and Ksh.40,000 to police. He urged candidates to avoid any form of cheating in the exams, warning that anyone caught would have their results cancelled.
“Please do not get involved in it, otherwise you will not get your results,” said Magoha during the distribution of KCSE examination papers at the Kisumu East Deputy County Commissioner’s office.
Prof. Magoha emphasized that the government would not tolerate any form of cheating and would take strict action against those found guilty.
