Kenya's 2019 Census Reveals a Population of 47.4 Million, with More Females than Males

On November 4, 2019, the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics released the results of the 2019 census, revealing a population of 47,564,296. The data showed that Kenya has more females than males, with a total female population of 24,014,716 compared to 23,548,056 males.

The census, conducted on the nights of August 24 and 25, 2019, also accounted for intersex people for the first time, with a total of 1,564 individuals recorded.

The results were presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House in Nairobi, with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Director General, Zachary Mwangi, releasing the data.

The census revealed that Kenya's population has increased by about 10 million from the 2009 census, when the population stood at 37.7 million people.

Nairobi county was found to be the most populous county, with a population of 4,394,073, followed by Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakamega, and Bungoma counties.
