On Monday morning, President Uhuru Kenyatta received the results of the National Population and Housing Census at State House in Nairobi, revealing a total population of 47,564,296.
The census, conducted on August 24 and 25, showed that the male population stands at 23,548,056, while the female population is 24,014,716.
Notably, the census accounted for intersex people for the first time, with a total of 1,564 individuals.
Kenya's population has increased by approximately 10 million since the 2009 census, which recorded a population of 37.7 million.
Nairobi County tops the list with a population of 4,394,073, followed by Kiambu, Nakuru, Kakagema, and Bungoma counties.
The least populous counties are Lamu, Isiolo, Samburu, Tana River, and Taita Taveta.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Director General Zachary Mwangi released the results, stating that further analysis will be conducted to produce additional reports.
President Kenyatta commended KNBS for conducting a successful census, which was fully funded by his administration.
He noted that Kenya is the first African country to release census results two months after the exercise was conducted.
The president emphasized that the report will enable the government to realign its development policies and programs.
